Sherlock Holmes: The Devil’s Daughter [Review of the game]
Sherlock Holmes – a character, no doubt, cult. Someone knows him from the books of Konan Doyle, someone from Soviet films with Vasily Livanov, and for someone Sherlock is associated with Benedict Cambubetch. In general, for each generation there is a Holmes. In video games, the great detective also inherited enough enough. Now the monopoly is holding the Ukrainian Studio Frogwarees, which released quite a few games in the quest genre. Previous game – Crimes & Punishments has entered. And I went very well. Inspired by success, the Ukrainians decided that they were ready to play in the Premier League, and the next project was wore a proud label AAA.
So, Devil’s Daughter offers to reveal five confusing and, in places, even fascinating affairs. They are written more or less good, the logic does not sag almost anywhere. All these matters are not related to each other, but in them, small interspersed, the main plot tied directly on Sherlock Holmes is thrown. The last thing, by the way, fully reveals the main plot. The characters cannot boast of special elaboration. For the most part, we will meet blanks, without a special story behind us. And this is really sad, because it can be seen, the scriptwriters of this game are far from crooked moron. Sherlock here generally appeared in a different form. Allows himself to manipulate, hides a gloomy secret from a loved one, which should be known to him that it looks nothing more than cowardice and so on (although in fact this secret is hidden in order for the players to wonder what such a terrible Sherlock is) to the word, the heroes have changed and externally. That Holmes, that Watson, became more cute. Not that I would be against it, but I was quite satisfied with the appearance of the heroes in the previous game.
It’s complicated with graphics. It seems like she https://independentcasinosites.co.uk/review/spinscastle/ is not bad, even by the standards of modernity, but the animation leaves much to be desired. Especially facial. It is quite difficult to empathize with the heroes when, during a heartbreaking monologue, the face of these heroes expresses mean nothing. Animation of movements also does not shine with refinements. In some places clumsy, in some places not bad, in general, varies strongly. Attention to details in this game is also not enough. This is very clearly visible when we take to the streets of London. There are few people on the street, and those that are are more like patients with a psychiatric hospital. That is, if you just go, the masses seem quite adequate, but it is worth approaching one of them better, it becomes clear, those who seem to be standing and talking, actually just wave their hands, without even opening their mouths, and the noise of the street is simply imposed on top WAV file. Sometimes it happens, there is a janitor in front of you and sweeps the street, without sound. And then stops and the sound appears. All kinds of glitches in this game are also full. However, nothing to prevent the passage. Mostly visual. Then a piece of the wall will begin to live his life, then a person will pierce through with his other hand, and neither the first nor the second one will noted this fact for himself. This applies only to the extras, and you can not pay attention to it, with a strong, very strong desire.
Well, gameplay. The most delicious finally, right? Since Crimes & Punishments, little has changed. We wander around the locations, find evidence, communicate with witnesses, suspect the suspects (tautology steering) mainly the innovations relate to mini games. Firstly, deduction. You all know that Sherlock Holmes can tell everything about the interlocutor, after a cursory inspection. In the previous game, it was enough only to draw a cursor along key points, now, in some places, they will be offered to choose what this or that feature of the appearance means. This affects, however, at all. After you have done the right (or wrong, you will not give out) the conclusion about the character, his profile will go to your magazine and will not come in handy anywhere else. Only once in the whole game, and this is about ten hours, Sherlock used his deduction to find an approach to the interlocutor. The system of dialogs here is simple to disgrace. This is mainly the choice of a sequence in which Holmes asks questions, but sometimes they will still give options. Which are either the same, or do not affect anything at all. Okay, in the final case there will be a scene that is furnished in the style of “Think what you say, otherwise you will fail” and it is furnished. Because choose any variant of dialogue, only the last dialogue matters.
Also during dialogue, in the manner of l.A. Noire, sometimes you can catch a person on lies. This is furnished in the form of QTE. We need to have time to click on the button so that there is a list of evidence from which you need to choose the right option. On the one hand, this is cool, but on the other hand, QTE here looks out of place, and, unlike l.A Noire, we do not need to monitor what the interlocutor says. The button just appears, we press it and select the desired option. By the way, this also does not affect anything. Even if you get along everywhere, you can still reveal the matter without any difficulty.
Deductive evidence analysis, as in the previous game, works as it should. I will explain if you do not know: some evidence can be tied among themselves, which will give us a conclusion. These conclusions are connected by each other, a logical chain is created, which leads to the conclusion which of the suspects will be a criminal. Some conclusions are interpreted in two ways, as a result, for each you can make a chain of conclusions. Accordingly, it is you who conduct the main part of the investigation. And it works. I really spent fifteen minutes, studying all the evidence I found, re -read the dialogs and so on. This makes you feel like a real detective. Not Sherlock leads you through the investigation, but you are conducting it. It spoils this idea that if you nevertheless made the wrong decision, nothing will stop you before rebuilding the chain and blaming anyone. Well, by tradition: this will not affect anything. In the sense that if you open a matter of incorrect, this will not affect the next business, no one will remember us, and even a moral choice, let go of the criminal or put it, then nafig is not needed.
In addition to the detective, the game contains action scenes, such as jogging through the corridor forest, when Sherlock is wounded and forced to count endurance in order to run away from shelter to shelter, while a hunter with a gun chases him. Almost everything is furnished quite sadly and uninterpreted, as well as a local stealth, made in the worst tradition of MGS or Splinter Cell. Why did all add it unclear. It looks like developers simply stretch the gameplay. The same can be said about puzzles. Most of them are quite adequate (a scene with the expulsion of the devil is generally fire) but there are also senile, and sometimes stupid moments. Fortunately, almost all the puzzles can be skipped by pressing the button specially designated for this. And I did it without much regrets. Because, as I said, this is nothing more than an attempt to stretch the passage time.
Sherlock Holmes: The Devil’s Daughter – not the worst game. It has successful plot moves, interesting gameplayan features, and I would even call it good, if not for two “but”, firstly, as a continuation of Crimes & Punishments, the game is completely good at anywhere. But this is not so critical. The fact that I mentioned at the very beginning of the review is critical. Label aaa. This game costs four thousand in PS Store and about two in Steam. For the game of the level of the daughter of the devil, this is a very high price. For reference, Crimes & Punishments costs about two thousand for PS 4 and five hundred rubles on Steam. And one could hope for the pirates, but the game is protected by the Denuvo system, so you can not open your reserves of rum.
